Acupuncture treatments

Both Andrew and Darren based at our Stokesley clinic are registered acupuncturists with the British Acupuncture Council.

Traditional acupuncture recognises that illness and pain are signs the body is out of balance and treats the whole person, not just symptoms of disease.

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that has gained such widespread popularity that the British Medical Acupuncture Council was formed to train doctors using a brief and summarised course on acupuncture.

Acupuncture

Before your first acupuncture treatment

Many commonly used acupuncture points are located on the lower arms and legs, so it is helpful to wear loose clothing that allows easy access to these areas.

We suggest you don't have treatment either on an empty stomach or straight after a large meal.

If you are new to acupuncture or are nervous of needles let your practitioner know and they will take extra time to make sure you understand and are at ease with the process.

After your treatment

Acupuncture is relaxing treatment leaving most people with a feeling of calm, even possibly a little tired or sleepy. Some people may prefer not to drive immediately after their treatment or perform tasks which require high levels of concentration.

It is advised that you shouldn't do any vigorous activities, give yourself time to relax but try to refrain from drinking alcohol for several hours after your treatment!
