Stokesley Osteopaths

Osteopathic Treatments

Osteopathy is a safe natural form of treatment that uses a range of techniques to address areas of injury.

Osteopaths are taught much that is covered in medical schools and treat all parts of the body.

All osteopaths are registered with the General Osteopathic Council formed in relation to the Osteopaths Acts 1993. Osteopathy is recognised by the British Medical Association as a discrete clinical discipline.

What to expect from your osteopathic treatment

Prior to any treatments one of our practitioners will take you through a complete medical assessment, in which we will discuss your medical history and your day-to-day routine.

We’ll ask you about things such as diet, exercise and what is happening in your life, as these may give clues to help our diagnosis.

We usually look at your posture and how you move your body. We may also assess what happens when we move it for you and see what hurts, where and when.

Treatment approaches include:

  • Massage, stretching, mobilisation and gentle manipulation
  • Cranial osteopathy
  • Craniosacral therapy
  • High velocity thrust techniques
  • Rhythmic passive joint manipulation
  • Soft tissue techniques

These techniques are practiced only after a four year course of full time study and years of practical experience.

We may discuss exercises that you can do to improve your posture and movement in your work place and everyday life.

Further treatments

We can usually tell after the first treatment session whether additional appointments will be necessary, as many conditions are a result of how we use our bodies in our work and recreational activities. Our practitioners will advise you of any changes or exercises which would help prevent reoccurring problems.
